RepoLantern is free. You bring your own model key and pay only your AI provider, at their prices.

What a guide costs

The cost depends on the size of the repository and the model you choose. Before anything is spent, RepoLantern shows the likely, low and high cost, and you approve it. Your spending limit is a hard stop.

Spend less

• Files already summarised are reused, so a second guide for the same repository costs less.
• Prompt caching is used where your provider supports it.
• Smaller, cheaper models work well for small repositories; choose a larger one for complex systems.

Free tiers

Many providers offer free tiers or credits. RepoLantern respects your provider's rate limits and pauses safely if a limit is reached, so you can resume later or switch models without losing work.

Two ways to make a guide for $0: Google Gemini's free tier (set it up), and OpenRouter's free models, whose ids end in :free. RepoLantern shows a free model's price as $0, from OpenRouter's own list, and keeps to OpenRouter's free limits (free models on OpenRouter). Free tiers may keep or use what you send, so read the provider's terms before you send private code.
